The Village of Arthur was saddened by the passing of Harriet (Hattie) Jean Black on Saturday Oct. 14, 1989 at Guelph General Hospital.

She was born to Margaret Rebecca Stewart and George Herbert Ladd on April 8th, 1916 in Mono Township. She married Francis Edward Black on May 24th 1934, in Proton Township. Together they owned several businesses in the Orangevile, Grand Valley and Kenilworth areas. On May 24th, 1984 they entertained many friends and relatives at their home in Kenilworth on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary.

She was predeceased by her husband Frank in March 1985 and by family members Pearl, Stewart, Elvin, Clifford and Hazel.

Hattie will be sadly missed by daughter Judy and her husband Mike Bolen of Arthur, granddaughter Michelle Leslie of Fredericton, N.B. and youngest sister Vera, (Mrs. Glenn Ewing) of Shelburne, and oldest sister Edna (Mrs. Alvin Allen) of Brampton.
