On Tuesday afternoon while hunting rabbits, Mr. Sylvester Wismer, who lived one mile east of Campden, was accidentally shot in the side. He was rushed to a St. Catharines Hospital but nothing could be done, and he passed away early last Wednesday morning. Mr. Wismer, accompanied by Messrs. Jacob Schweitzer, Harry Schweitzer and Emory Kratz, had been shooting rabbits all morning. They were on their way home when Mr. Wismer stopped and placed the butt of his gun on a large stone, leaning the barrel against his side. The gun slipped off the stone, striking the hammer against the stone which discharged the gun, the whole charge entering the body above the hip. Dr. Addy of Jordan was summoned and the unfortunate victim was rushed to a St. Catharines hospital and ...under the X-rays but it was ... that nothing could be done. He passed away about 4 o'clock Wednesday morning.
