Service in Memory of Corp. R. C. Kerr

The Baptist chapel was crowded to the doors Sunday morning when Rev. Mr. Proudfoot of Sudbury, late Lance Corp. of the 147th Batt., preached a memorial sermon for the late Pte. R. C. Kerr, who feil recently in France. The speaker was peculiarly fitted for this task, having gone overseas with the 147th and knowing intimately the man whose death he was here to commemorate. The text was taken from Hebrews 4: 9-10. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he who is entered into his cest he also hath ceased from his own works as God did from his.' He said that Mr. Kerr did not go into the war to wreak vengeance on Germany but as a duty and love for truth that German kultur was trampling underfoot, and als, to help protect the smaller nations. There was a Jonathan and David friendship between the tiro that lasted until the end, and many pleasant memories of that friendship would linger with him. One of the men who slept beside Mr. Kerr and who was with him most of the time said that he was the finest man he had ever met. He carried into the army the same ideals that characterized his life when he was among us, and many men in the Battalion were blessed by his coming. He was respected by all who knew him and the loss to the boys is a great loss indeed . In closing the address Mr. Proudfoot said that the Canadians over there have a name for thoroughness and Mr. Kerr was one of the most thorough men there was in that Battalion. The Prince Arthur Lodge, A.F. & A.M, attended the service in a body.
