Return of the Troops.
Markdale Standard (Markdale, Ont.), 23 Jul 1885, p. 4

Full Text

On Saturday last the Midland Battalion passed through here about half past one p.m. The train halted to take water when several hundred of our citizens gave them a good harty cheer and welcome home while our brass band played the "Red, White and Blue," and other patriotic tunes. The Quebec contingent followed at half past five when the crowd had swelled to about 500, the ladies had by this time replenished their stock of boquets and the band was again in position on a carload of lumber, and all joined in one outburst of welcome to the returning brave boys who were in excellent health and spirits, though thoroughly tanned with the scorching sun of the prairie province. Col. Amyot wishes to thank the people of Markdale for their presence at the station and hearty welcome, the band for their attendance and excellent music, and the ladies for their numerous boquets.
